In 1999 Dr Yvonne Robson, a concerned veterinarian, started helping an animal welfare organisation as a volunteer and in April 2004 she joined another welfare organisation full time and started a clinic in Sunnydale in order to assist with the needs of the animals from the underprivileged areas of the southern peninsula.
The main objective of this clinic was to sterilise cats and dogs, and the clinic sterilised about 2,000 animals in the two years that it operated, which stopped countless thousands of animals being born in unhappy circumstances. The less crowded conditions lead to much healthier environments for animals and people alike.
In early 2006 the mother organisation experienced funding problems and closed the facility. Dr Robson was determined to continue addressing the enormous need for sterilisation and care of domestic animals in the area, and the organisation's related education programmes.
In June 2006 the clinic reopened as the Sunnydale Animal Sterilisation and Health Association, known as SASHA. SASHA continued the sterilisation and education program and registered as a Non-Profit Organisation (No. 52-823). From its start in 2006 to the end of 2009, SASHA was responsible for sterilising 3,500 animals. However, Dr Yvonne was spending too much of her time doing administrative tasks, so in 2010 she is continuing her campaign with the support of the Animal Rescue Organisation.
